Transportation...

Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and Dallas Love Field are approximately 25 miles from Frisco. Burlington Northern/Santa Fe Railroad and four motor freight lines serve the city.

Via the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) travelers are just a few short hours away from any major business center in the United States. DFW is ranked third in the world for total flight operations and averages nearly 2,300 flights each day. DFW serves 153 cities worldwide, including a total of 116 nonstop domestic destinations and 37 international nonstop and direct destinations.

Ground Transportation …

Frisco is conveniently accessible by numerous state and federal highways including state Highway 289 (Preston Road), State Highway 121, Dallas North Tollway, and US Highway 380. US 75 is only 15 minutes to the east of Frisco via State Highway 121. US380 forms the city’s north boundary and is a national truck route connecting I30 and I20 in Greenville to I35 in Denton.

Preston Road has been the center of economic growth and opportunity in the Dallas region for decades. This “Golden Corridor” bisects Frisco and links the community to Plano and Dallas. The reputation of Preston Road as being the prime Metroplex retail location is noticeably present from Dallas to Frisco.

The Dallas North Tollway (DNT) development corridor, recently dubbed the “Platinum Corridor”, now extends through Frisco to US380 with a four-lane service road from Warren Parkway to Main Street in Frisco and a two-lane service road from Main Street to US380. The main lanes of DNT are now open from Legacy Drive in Plano to Gaylord Parkway in Frisco.

Frisco Thoroughfare Improvements …

Below are major construction and improvement projects in or adjacent to Frisco.

  1.  Dallas North Tollway – NTTA continues to make progress. The North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) Board of directors voted unanimously to authorize a 9.7-mile, $264 million extension of the DNT from Gaylord Parkway in Frisco north to US 380.

At most of the cross streets, the DNT will be an overpass. Underpasses will be built at Warren, Lebanon and Stonebrook only. The main toll plaza will be constructed between Main Street and Eldorado. Five additional pairs of ramp plazas will be built at interchanges along the extension. Completion expected 2007

  2. State Highway 121 is recognized as a major east/west traffic conduit for the Frisco area. Construction is underway on improvements that will provide six-lane freeway access from DFW International Airport to US75 in Dallas.

Construction is underway on the main lanes from Denton Creek in Grapevine to I-35E in Lewisville. This includes the interchange at I-35E. Construction will be completed in March 2007.

Construction of the overpass at SH121 and Ohio Drive is scheduled to be completed By November/December 2007.

The contract for construction of the frontage roads and main lanes from FM544 to the Dallas North Tollway (DNT) in Frisco was awarded in May 2004. Construction began in July 2004 and will be completed in February 2008.

The contract for construction of the frontage road from DNT east to Custer Road was awarded in July 2004. This contract will include construction of the main lanes to Hillcrest. Construction began October 2004 and should be completed in early 2008. Three-level interchanges at SH 121 & Preston Road and at Custer Road are included in this project. As sections of the project are complete, they will be open to the public.

The Final link from Custer Road east to US75 of frontage roads is open.

  3. Preston Road (SH289) – Widening of Preston Road from two lanes to four lanes from Main Street to US380. Construction starting March 2007; Completion expected March 2009. TxDOT anticipated completion of Preston Road overpass to be completed in November 2006. The final configuration will be three levels; the service roads as the 1st (bottom) level, Preston Overpass as the 2nd (middle) level and SH 121 as the 3rd (top) level.

  4. Main Street (FM3537) – Construct four lanes from Preston road to Custer Road. Project status is in right-of-way acquisition.

  5. FM423 – Widening of the existing lanes to 12 feet with 10-foot shoulders from Main Street to The Colony. Currently under construction.

Lewisville Lake Toll Bridge

In March 2006, construction started on the first section of the Lewisville Lake/FM 720 Corridor Project that extends Swisher Road in Lake Dallas to connect Interstate 35E (I-35E) to the lake. Construction on the bridge itself and on a stretch of road leading from the bridge on the west side will probably begin in July 2006. The project includes eight sections that total 13 miles.

The cost of the project is estimated at about $150 million. The road will begin at I-35E in Lake Dallas, cross Lewisville Lake in two places, stretch through Little Elm and Frisco and connect with the Dallas North Tollway.

The completion date for the project is 2009.
